How do I become a Contract Project Manager?
The sole purpose of this website is to answer the simple question, that I am asked so often –
"How do I become a Contract Project Manager?"
At the early stages of my career I knew I wanted to become a contractor but had no idea what was required or what steps I needed to take to become one. The question I kept asking myself was "What do I need to become a contract Project Manager?" I realised that there were many gaps in my CV that I needed to fill before I could even consider applying for these roles. I spent a considerable period of time ensuring I obtained the relevant experience, training and qualifications to fill these gaps.
During this time, I was working as a management consultant and I became aware that what I was really striving for was more choice and control over the Projects that I wished to become more involved in, but I did not quite know how I was going to achieve this.
I had a choice to remain in my current role, or to make the leap and jump in at the deep end and break into the contract market. The deciding factors were, that I knew I wanted to choose the projects that I would be working on and I wanted to increase my salary, improve my lifestyle and gain a better work / life balance. These factors were to become my goal.
I jumped and found myself without a job, sitting at home. Then it hit me – I realised it was not going to be as easy as I had first anticipated. I had many doubts during my time of unemployment asking myself. "Did I make the right decision?" Despite obtaining extra training and qualifications I realised I was stopping myself from applying for many roles as I did not feel that I met all the requirements specified in the job advert. This is a common obstacle faced by many. The pressures of being unemployed made me realise that I needed to change my strategy - you don’t have to be perfect and have absolutely everything that the role requires.
Who does?
I treated this period as a full-time job, spending concentrated effort eight hours per day, applying for hundreds of positions, making up to 200 calls a week for three months solid. This was pretty exhausting and at times demoralising. Looking back now, I realise what a steep learning curve this was for me. I encountered many obstacles and at times felt like giving up.
However I found a way to get around many of these obstacles and at each stage I designed a method to streamline this process, which I constantly refined. This method is outlined in a detailed step by step guide along with as my personal experiences - in my eBook : "How to become a Contract Project Manager".
There are many people who are good at their jobs but are not good at marketing themselves. I have played the game and have documented the method. I can help you market yourself and understand the process, so that you too can get the job you want!
There are many ‘rule’ books on ‘how to’ build a web site, day trading, and so on. But as yet there are relatively few books on how to become a Contract Project Manager. I am offering you the opportunity to learn the rules, make an informed decision and take the leap - but WITH a safety net (my eBook : "How to become a Contract Project Manager")
Moreover I realise that not everyone will be in a position or have the opportunity to spend the required time as I did, however: I can save you the time and effort.
I have documented this efficient process and what I have learned in my eBook : "How to become a Contract Project Manager"
Equally important I can show you how to increase your salary, improve your lifestyle and gain a better work / life balance.

While my experience and the information within this website is based on the London (UK) contracting market, it should be equally applicable to all UK cities and may also be relevant to other markets - such as the US. However as I have no experience of such markets I cannot vouch for this.
